Reading #2: The Black Cat

1. The exploration of how guilt affects people is a common theme in Poe's short stories, and 'The Black Cat' is no exception. The narrator is consumed by guilt about what he's done. He does not seem to fully realize the amount of his guilt, insisting that he is not bothered by what he has done, but his guilt manifests in subconscious ways.

What are some of the subconscious ways in which his guilt manifests?

2.There are many transformations that occur in this story. Who changes the most in the story? Why do you think so?

3. In "The Black Cat" the unnamed narrator offers us a parade of violent acts. Eye gouging, hanging, axing – these are the gruesome highlights.

How did you react to the violence in the story? Was there a particular act of violence that struck you? If so, which one?

What do you think made the man turn violent? Do you believe him when he implies he wasn't violent before he got married and started drinking? Try to use the text to support your answer.

Second question:
I think that was the man, why? because he told us at the beginning that he was very kind, a good person, is the way that he describes himself, but he changes, but when the story is in the middle or at the end, he shows us that he is different, he shows his “real personality”, he’s who decided to kill the cat and his wife, he’s who decided to drink, and maybe that’s the fundamental thing of his acts, the alcohol can change enormously someone’s life.
He is who can change his life, if this is correct or not, if “I’m doing the best”, if I want to be mad, I will be mad and I will be mad, he can accuse the alcohol bat at last, he’ is who decided to drink.

Third Question.
Well I liked it so much this tale and I liked it the way that he described how he tried to kill the cat, it was very good that part. I think he turned violent for the alcohol, all of we know that the alcohol can change someone, he could be the better person but if he starts to drink all the days, all the weekends, he’ll change. His behavior, his manners, the way that he acts. In the text says “my own character became greatly changed. I began to drink too much wine and other strong drinks” after that he wanted to kill the cat and then he wanted to kill his wife.
Why his wife? Why he killed his wife? For me is obviously, because the alcohol doesn’t have “feelings”, who is addicted or alcoholic doesn’t distinguish “love”. It is a person without own decision.

Question#2 The man changes the most in this story, his personality, he was an animal lover but he was different as the days passed, he became to drink so much alcohol and he forgot all that he had. He was very cold with his wife and pets,until he reached the point of attack his best friend Pluto. He became to be other person, other person that nobody knows. I think this situation is a consequence of a bad balance of life. This man had something that we can call like a metamorphosis. I think that every single person reaches this stage of life but we decided if we want to be in a bar drinking and drinking or if we want to enjoy every moment of life with persons that we love. Maybe one day we will wake up and we feel ourselves different, maybe one day you won't want to carry on, but why we let it masters our life? We have to have a control of our thoughts nobody said life was easy. If we have bad decisions we can lose all our important things in life. In the other hand alcohol is the worse enemy of man, it only give you misfortune, it takes control of mind and you can able to do horrible things unconscious.

Question#4 I think this story tries to follow us how we might be slaves of our own mind,how gosts can make of our life a hell and i am not talking about spirit gosts, I mean bills for paying, family problems,stress, fatigue, worries. Maybe today we are here in this world but we don't know what is going to happen tomorrow. We have to focus in important things. We have to think in what is better for us because maybe one day you can wake up and haven't anything.

Question #2

I consider it is evident that the man, in this case the narrator was who changed the most, because at the beginning of the story, the man described how his childhood was, and so how innocent, mostly if we are talking about animals, since he said that he loved all of them and they were their friends as a kid. I firmly believe that he didn’t have a happy life, we can’t say why, but a person who had everything, a house to live, a lovely wife and pets and despite this start with the vise of alcohol is kind weird and inexplicable, there is something else behind this, perhaps a trauma from childhood. We know that alcohol changes men and in this story was in a violent way. The narrator mentioned how happy he was after get married, I think it could be a lie, because how can you explain his sudden desire for drink after that? He didn’t change just because of his wife, but with his pets too, of course we must also understand that hurting them was due to alcohol.

I must say the story was shocking for me, the whole story was full of violent events, two of them struck me, and the first one was when the man cut out one of the cat’s eyes, I know he was under the influence of the alcohol, but his reaction towards an innocent animal, which even loved him, disturbed me. The other event was when the narrator killed his wife, the way he did it and that after that he just could think that the cat wasn’t there, instead of his murder and also that he said that now he could sleep well, it was terrible.
I think the alcohol made the man violent; even though, in the story the man said that he was not crazy, I sense he was, and the alcohol combine with a man who suffers mind problems affected all his behaviors. I believe what he say about he wasn’t violent before started drinking because as he mentioned, he had a natural goodness of soul, especially with animals. In the story I could say that the man’s weakness for the alcohol was the responsible for the atrocities he did.

3th Question:
This story made me think about all the horrible things that people do when they get drunk and it also showed me some effects that alcoholism creates in the people that suffered it. In my own opinion I think that the most horrible violent act he did is when he cut out the cat's eye and the most horrible about it is that there was no reason to do it and he did it just because the cat loved him.
I think he started drinking after he got married and also I firmly believe the reason of his alcoholism is for economical problems and I'm basing on he and his wife were living in an inn and as it's commonly known inns are cheaper hotels where people usually live when they don't have money to pay a better place.
4th Question: When I was reading the story I got the message the autor gave and my idea about it is that all the bad things we do are going to come back against us as an act of revenge for having done and that explains me the end when the cat sounded when police where leaving the cellar in which his wife's corpse where hidden behind the wall.

4th Question
From my point of view the tale is based on how our actions can follow us in anything we’ll do, in this case “Drinking” is the situation; however, it could be anything that can make us make bad decisions. All actions come with company either bad or good. The drinking problem made this man to put his life manner upside down, he got grumpy, got angry with no reason, etc. The cat is the problem whom objective is to make the man pay for his acts. He thought that hiding the consequences of his acts due to drinking would make things better or will make them disappear, for some days he was calm, despite this he was forced to confess all he did, and what appeared next? The cat. Since the beginning the problem was with him until the end, but at the end it comes with all the company he made during his acts.

3rd Question
It’s impossible not to say that is a creepy tale due to the violent acts the man does, pitifully my reaction is not as big as it should be because problems like those, nowadays are very common and its reactions as well. But, killing his wife because of a struck of anger is such an inhuman act. It’s not illegal to get angry; nonetheless, involve people with you in your anger is not forgiven. I believe him in sort of way because he talked about sharing the love with the animals with his wife, etc. But, in the text is I noticed that his wife doesn’t share that with him, “I alone fed it” for example, it might be the reason by which he started to drink. There’s no doubt, the liquor turned him violent, it makes anyone violent and even worse, but none of his acts are acceptable.

I must say that I was not shocked by the events that took place in this short story; nonetheless, my thoughts were uneasy about the idea the protagonist had. The one of mutilating his wife with the axe.
I assume he felt no love for her, because it was such a cruel idea and there was no hesitating or feel of remorse. He just felt the necessity of hiding the body. As I remember, this was the only time in which he harm her. The first, last and only.
The only clue that I can extract from the text is that he started to drink without control. This, plus some problems that I suppose, every couple have through their marriage, made a change in his mind. Ending up in a dis-controlled anger.

Question #4

I strongly believe that the central idea is the anger. It's about a man that can't control his anger and hurts his beloved beings. One important fact is the alteration of his behaviour. Specially because it is the trigger of the events. Let's think about it, if the man would not had lost his control, he would not had harm the cat or his wife.

Question # 2
I think that the most significant change in the story happens to narrator, because we can see that at the beginning of the story he says that since his childhood he was very kind with animal, a great variety of pets as he says that he had, but as he also says, his temper suffered a radical change, he became in a moody, and irritable person, that regardless of the feelings of other, even with his wife, as he says, he used intemperate language with her, and also he offered her personal violence, and not only was his wife who experienced his radical change, it was also his pets, even the cat run way from him, because even the cat perceived his big change. It is very clear that who change the most was the man, he changed the kind way he saw animals, into hate for them, he also changed the respect for his wife and transformed it in violence, suddenly everything disturbed him, his wife, his pets, especially the poor cat, just because he thought the cat was like following him, in a way like spy on him, but I think that this was his imagination only, because cats are like that, but not in a bad way. But, get till the point to killed his wife, just to pretend end with the other cat, and end with his torture of had cut of the eye to first black cat, and killed his wife without any regret, I think he was crazy.

I think that, because he let us know at the beginning that he used to love animals, since he was a child, so this was too much time to live in a peaceful way, without making anyone suffer. And, also his wife had a connection with animals, and support him to had some of them at their house when they get married, because he says that animals had like an especial way to “speaks directly to the heart man” so I suppose that maybe it wasn´t animals who made him change, maybe was something that happened in his childhood, he grew up with that inside and never overcome in the right way.

In my opinion, what made him change such a way, it may have been, something he carried out since childhood and made it stronger since he started to drink and take refuge in the alcohol, also I think that was what made him to be like faddish, that get the point that everything bothers him, all around him made him get upset for nothing important, till got him crazy, I think that, if you project love to other that is what you are going to get back from other, people and also from animals, but I think that animal´s love is purer than people, because people change their mind easily, but in case of animals they are more faithful, they are more grateful, they value more what you do for them than some people. So, his change had to have been for a very big reason, to transform all the good manners he had into a such violent way.

I would say that, I believe to him, because he describes him as a person who grow up loving animals: “When I was a child I had a natural goodness and soul which led me to love animals, -all kind of animals” So, if you´re a person who loves animals, why could make you change your mind about this and turn it such a bad thing as the narrator told us. This because, you decided how to act in your life, you´re the only responsible of the decision you take in your life, and you know what is right and what is not, so you chose, nobody can do it for you. So, if he decided to started drinking alcohol, he was the only one who could decide if continue doing or not, because he also had to take into count what were some of the consequences that this was going to bring to him, in his personal life, with his wife, friends and also with his pets.

What’s the central idea of this story? Explain your answer.
I think the central idea has to do with the personality trait that he already had in his genes; his inner thoughts like madness and evil ones. But he did not notice until his life began to take a different turn with his illness and alcoholism. The cat reminds him all the bad instincts that he had, the murders he commits, not recognizing him to be obsessed with the anger he has inside, that he is not well what he did. So being addicted to alcohol changes his life and his way of being; besides that he begins to have negative thoughts and feelings like: the resentment and the hate.

• What are some of the subconscious ways in which his guilt manifests?

Some manifestations are the followings: First, the narrator fights against the influence of alcohol, when he hits his animals with violence and this lead him to feel guilty. Second, the narrator feels confused and miserable, and therefore he sees his animals as his enemies. Another manifestation is when he aggressively drunk attacks his wife. So from this tale it can infer that there is domestic violence, influence of alcohol, hate of him and guilt. Also, when he burned his house is another manifestation that he has a mad mind.

Question 2:
Well, I have reason to believe that the most who change in the story was the man, because since the beginning we could see how he describes himself in his youth when was an animal lover, he seemed that he was a loving person because of the way that he spoke about the animals; however, when the tale develops more, we can see how the man change after the marriage, he began to drink alcohol and also how was affecting this disease his behavior, as we know the Alcoholism affect the brain and also there are many other consequences that it has, such as angry and unconscious behavior, the way that he want to hurt the cat I think is because that is alcohol do, we saw examples of some people cry, some others want to fight with whoever without reason or a stupid reason. I mean, the anxiety and bad behavior that provoked alcohol caused that he just needed to hurt the cat and kill it.

I consider that the central idea of this short story is what we do and how we are, begins and ends on ourselves, because we are reflection of our actions and how we act bring us consequences. I have a quote that caught my eye and always is in my mind "WE CREATE OUR OWN DEMONS" in this case about the story "THE DEMON" was the alcoholism that the man had it and destroyed him and when the cat came back of "the dead", I saw it as a metaphor because is like a reminder of his actions that he did, but I think that he didn´t get the idea and murdered his wife as consequence of his illness. In real life there are many demons, such as addictions and bad things what tempt us, so we decide the way that we want to take and what we think is "the best".

All the things that happen or could happen to us is because of us, there're people that can influence in our life, that's true, but we get influenced if that's what we really want, there're a wide possible choices to make , and if we really are expecting to do or get something, we should make the right ones in order to do not be influenced by unknown people.

I think the man turn violent because he changed his good life because some years ago he was a great person that love his wife and his pets. Then he became less loving in his manner and that was for his alcohol. He had lost the control of himself for his addiction. For that reason, I think he did everything because he gets angry easily therefore he wasn’t confident of what he was doing. Also, I think the man turn violent because the cat was avoiding him. And he didn’t want to accept that the cat didn’t love him anymore. And I believe him that he wasn’t violent before got marry but he completely changes when he started to drink alcohol.

The central idea of this story is that we never have to permit a drug like the alcohol, try to control us because everyone in this life have problems but we have differents ways to solve it we don’t have to go to the easy way. Because if we act bad is that moment and we did something to prejudice another person or animal in this case, we’ll pay it in any moment. For that reason, is better think about what are doing we. I know that in this story the man was drinking a lot of alcohol and he killed his wife trying to kill the cat for the same reason but when he did it.He didn’t show any feeling because the alcohol was taking control of him

The main transformation was the narrator because he was a normal person with a good live, he loved the animals a lot and he found a wife to share this emotions too, however at the end he finish like a murder, he not only killed his cat he killed his wife and also the cat change with him and prepared its revenge.
I think that the firt in change was the narrator because he started to drink and it made that he became less loving his manners, the lack of love for the beings made he was cruel with the cat because the cat was with him almost every time, the poor cat suffer the consequences of his change but the cat started to changed with him, the didn't show its change at the beginning but at the end is notice that the cat was prepering its revenge since the beginning.

I think that the message is "you get what you give" during the time that the narrator was a good husband and was a man that protected the animals he had a happy life but when he changed his behaviour, his life started to change in a bad way for example when he killed the cat his house was destroid by a fire, when he recived the cat again and he discoverd that it had only a eye he din't feel sorrow for the cat instead a dislike growing in him, with this feelings he tried to kill his cat again and finished killing his wife without remorse.

Well, I think the main transformation was that he decided to change a good life together with a loving wife, a protective and loving feeling for animals, to adhere to a vice that I think is more an excuse than a fact, because each person knows what he does and in this case preferred to be carried away by a feeling of madness with which he committed atrocities to the point of murdering his own wife without any remorse. I think many factors influence, such as having a life of discomfort, perhaps some childhood trauma or simply a feeling of that was not conscious and that emerged through his frustration.

I think what story reveals or is based on whether our decisions are good or bad always have consequences negative or positive , in this case he decided to protect his problems under a vice which was "drinking alcohol" without any limit, this has a lot of relationship with the fact that he changed his way of being because basically he lost control of his actions, letting himself to be driven by a feeling of anger, in addition, by committing violent and calculating acts. On the other hand, I think that the obsession with the cat was only a detonator of his own desires, he made him see what he really was and he tried to retaliate by killing him because he felt frustration of himself. Despite he did not feel much remorse for his acts his mind did not leave him calm, the ghosts of his acts persecuted him, which is not only found in a fictional story but also applies a lot to reality.

Well definitely it is obvious that the men presents many changes of attitude during the story, and I would like to share with you guys that I think these changes are due to alcohol, but I also thought about something else...In some moment while I was reading I realized that maybe this guy felt this kind of "personal reproach" about himself 'cause he can not stand to love someone so much, I mean like that he hates the feeling of love, maybe because in his childhood he had problems with his parents (talking about affections of love), and well if we add the alcohol this makes the situation worse, I never thought that he was going to kill his wife because of the way he describes how lovely was find someone who loves the animals in the same way he did.
We all know that alcohol has the power of change people, and when I say change is to create a monster able to do anything, and in this case at the narrator describes this man as a good person that you never expect that at the end is going to be a killer.

Well based on many things it's too difficult to get a central idea because there are a lot of things that can involves the men behavior's, however, I would dare to say that the power he gave to this was the let's say the key, for create the person that he is at the end.
He already mentions his problem during the story, I mean he is aware that alcohol is changing his behavior, nevertheless he didn't nothing to avoid it.
Sometimes this kinds of "weapons" (alcohol, drugs) that we accepted are too dangerous both for ourselves and for the people around us.
His wife had to pay the price of life for a moment of anger and it's too unfair.
And I would say that sometimes the "punishment" for this people is the thought of guilty, the remorse...they can not escape this problem, and as we can read this man had the need to say out loud what was happening in his mind.

For sure we know that the person who changed the most in the story is the man, because at the beginning of the story he says that he really like animals, that he had a natural goodness to love animals, he said he had many pets; however, we can see how things can change easily. In a blink of an eye the man became cruel, he was no kind anymore. The man became violent with all things that were around him, mostly with his wife and the black cat who was always following him.

I wanna start saying that was shocking for me when the man killed his wife without thinking. It was interesting the way he could hide his wife’s body. The part of the story that maybe struck me was the end, when the man says that on the body´s head the cat was sit crying out its revenge, it sounds weird but interesting at the same time.
In the story we can see a lot of violence, I firmly believe that when he got married he was a normal and lovely man, but after that he said that he was drinking a lot, so probably he was sick, he had a problem with the alcohol, so it could be the reason why he became a different and cruel guy. If he was a good man at the beginning, honestly I can’t figure out how he could kill his wife; nonetheless, the events totally changed and his wife and the cat were who paid for man’s cruelty.

I firmly believe that the man was the one who changed the most, because at the beginning of history he was a very happy man, loved animals too much, had a quiet life, then found his wife who made him even happier because she shared the same feeling that he had towards animals, then for putting alcohol first in his life, he lost his charisma, his happiness, and even his love for the animals and his wife too, he invaded an inexplicable coldness, which led him to kill his cat and his wife for no reason other than the desire to kill. Even though he did his best to hide her body, but his conscience betrayed him. It is impressive how this man changed so much, he hates Pluto and kill his wife without any remorse, as he gets to lose all the good he had for alcohol, until his freedom.

QUESTION #4

I believe that this story is based on trying to show how abuse in the use of drugs can distort a life, how the way of thinking of feeling of life changes, to the point of murdering your loved ones, this looks a lot today, as there are people who steal, kill, do the unimaginable by drugs even against their own mothers or as in this case against his wife, this is demeaning and you see horrible as there are people who do whatever it takes to achieve drugs without measuring the consequences or the degree of baseness in which they fall by drugs. It is amazing how drugs can consume a person completely, they live lost in a world of anxiety of pain and perdition that does not let them enjoy their own lives, and do not share with other people unless they are also addicted, these situations are very sad and many families in Costa Rica suffer this situation.

I think the man has a extreme change in his life, he told in this story that he was a good person when he was a young but when he stared to drink too much his personality had a change, i guess the alcohol slowly destroyed his mind for that reason he killed the cat and his wife, he was already crazy because of he drink at the inn every day, we have to be careful and not consume things that damage our body or mind because we can commmit dangerous things and we can hurt to close people, for example family, friends, couple etc..

I was shocked about each violent act that this man commited during the story but i was very surprised when he killed his wife, i didn't expect him to do that because she was his love or maybe he didn't feel anything for her, he bacame a cold person without feelings he had not remorse about the crimes that he commited.

I think the alcohol was the main problem because he said in the story that he was a kindly person and that he loved the animals but when he stared to drink his life had a change, the alcohol affect his brain and his body and he killed his own cat and his wife, the cat was very loving with him and maybe his wife too

I personally believe that what changed the most was the man, because he said he was a lovely person, he used to love animals and in fact he had some animals at home. It seems he used to be patient with animals and his wife, moreover he was really happy because his wife shared his likes. Unfortunately this man turned into a violent person because of booze, he started drinking a lot of alcohol everyday and lost his lovely character, I woud say he was a bad-tempered person since the beginning and alcohol just helped him increase that bad aspect about his life, his cat and wife were the most affected ones because they had to put up with him for a long time.

From my point of view I saw it coming, it was a matter of time that he would become a person filled of anger. Something that was shocking for me was that he was able to hurt his “best friend”, his cat with no reason. Either the cat or his wife had been their entires lives with him and had loved him unconditionally. Of course what made him turn into a violent person was his love for drinking, booze can change and destroy any person, no matter if he or she used to be friendly, lovely or hard working, it doesn´t recognize if you´re a good person, it just changes you in a bad way. Finally I believe him because since the beginning he said he used to be patient and lovely with animals, he had had several animals and he hadn´t gone through a situation like that one.

I was really surprise because of all the violence of the tale, there were 2 acts that made me shock, the first one was when the man cut of one of the cat's eye and olny because the cat was traying to stay out of his way (poor cat), the second act was when he killed his wife, but after that he was still looking for the black cat, he didn't relize what he just did. For me he is really crazy and violent but this started when he began to drink, because in the tale he said that he "had a natural goodness of souls that led hem love animals", so for me that means that he would never heart an animal or a person. Thats way a I say that all of this murder started when he began to drink.

The most changeable character in the story is the man, I think that we humans are very change our thoughts and feelings for something or someone are easy to change, in this story the reason this man changed was by alcohol and is that if we talk about addictions this is one that changes the mood of a person very easy in this case his mood was changing and what he loved was becoming hate but more towards the cat, why? I think that maybe because he was running away to see what a binge that the man began to be and to be what he loved most that made him angry and beat him.

About how did I react about the story, about that bloody and violence story? I like to read, I read a lot! I’ve read different kind of stories, novels, statistics, blogs, the bible... but it’s no typical of me to read stories of Edgar Allan Poe. His stories always have a spooky or dramatic or violence final. I usually read romantic novels, because I’m a romantic woman, so, for me it was very different this story. This selfish story. I don’t like it. Obviously, I don’t like it. I don’t like bloody stories, nevertheless the way that he descripted all the facts it’s admirable. It really impacts me how he can describe step by step how he killed the cat, what did he do with its eye, this cat used to be his best and faithful friend. That was very interesting.
For me, I thought that he was starting to be insane. He started to imagine weird things, how he could imagine that the cat was bad? I cannot understand how he started to get insane, to think in that kind of stuff. And the way that he could kill his wife?! How he could do it?! I don’t really believe that he wasn’t aggressive before to get married, because he used to have alcoholic problems and surprisingly he started to describe himself at the beginning as a good, kind and animal lover or maybe the animals call pets. If he used to be like that, why did he kill his domestic cat and then his wife? It doesn’t make sense for me. He really was insane.

I think that the he is the person who most changed around the whole story. At the beginning, he really likes the animals and got married with a girl that also likes the animals. He said that he started to change a lot. Soon, he started to drink too much and to frequent places such as bars, inns. He became more angry and irritable. Why did he do that? Didn’t he love his wife? Did he have problems with her, with his house? I can’t understand it! He changed and changed to bad. In my humble opinion, that led him to kill his cat. He felt guilty to drink too much and visit those places. He hated the cat because he knew that the cat remembers him to stop to drink and he didn’t want to quit. For me, the cat represents to leave the alcohol, and he didn’t prepare to do it. It’s a shame how he kills the cat and then his wife, but for me, impacts me more the cat’s dead than his wife’s dead. How he could hang it? I don’t know why. He really appreciated Pluto; or at least I thought it. Again, for me it's a cruel story.

Well I think that violence in this story is so dangerous because all the time he was angry and he blamed to his cat Pluto for all that happened in his life, but the unique responsible of that violence was the Sir. I think that reaction of this violence about his cat and his wife is so bad and my reaction is not good because how that man can believe that his cat was all the blame, if he was furious with both of them, he had to take control about himself and think better, but he was thinking with his feelings and not with heart heart. The most act of violence that struck me was when he decided to kill his wife for a simple thing only, because she was defending the cat, and he killed her as an animal and it was weird to read that part, but I'm not totally sure but I think that all violence here is only for alcohol, and all the bad and strange situations happened after that he drank, before that he was a lovely man and kind with his cat and wife.

I think that principal idea is that we are blind to our own failings and evil qualities, because when some people have a fail and they don't want to have the fault, they blame another person that doesn't have the fault, and maybe not all people have evil qualities but in this case that man have it, if someone has an evil quality if obviously that someone doesn't want that nobody knows, and it is for that reason that I think that fail is one of the most problem of the man, because he hated that cat and he obsessed with kill the black cat and when he catched it, so he showed his evil quality.

Everyone in this story had a major transformation but for me it is very clear that who changed the most was him. And it is that he started being a child full of love for all and especially for animals but I think that over time, age and alchohol, perversity and evil took over him by modifying his character and personality. Now he is like someone else forgetting how to smile and laugh.

Answering question #3. As I started reading the story I was very surprised more and more because it really struck me the changes that man had and for every cruel act he did. Why do you hurt a poor cat that loved you all your life? It seems to me too shocking and incomprehensible but the act that surprised me most was when he killed his wife.
I know that alcohol affects the thoughts and control of emotions and behaviors and for that reason I think that while he was under the effects of alcohol maybe he was not really aware of what he was doing and he was also carried away by the anger of the moment.
And yes I believe him when he said he was not violent before getting married or before drinking, because people can change for different reasons and circumstances of life.

Those kinds of violent acts didn't affect me too much ,even thought they are bad actions,for me and because of the movies and series we have now at our dispossal ,this kind of violence is not considered beyond the normal ,so with that said ,there were not any particular violence act that struck me .

This story tells the transformations that the man spent in his manner of behaving, however, of the second black cat is only said to have a change, although in other versions of story this cat is becoming more and more to resemble completely to the first cat that had the man, called "Pluto"; the cat had physical changes, but the man who tells the story had changes in his attitude that are more considered. At first the man said that he was very happy and had a loving behavior towards animals, especially towards his cat. It seems to me a somewhat disturbing story because of the murders that this man performs, and what hurts me the most is the animal mistreatment that is presented, I'm not really accustomed to this kind of stories where animals are mistreated, but the stories of murders in people seem to me more common and less impacting.

What I have been reading about this story is that the man (narrator) is the person who changed the most, since when he was a child always loved the animals principally pets; besides, he had a lot of animals with his wife, some birds, some goldfish, a fine dog, and a cat. I consider that his main trouble was the alcohol because he started to change in his way of acting, against his wife and his pets; indeed, nowadays we can see many family problems for the alcohol, I am not saying that is bad, but some people become aggressive or crazy when they drink a lot. Referring to this, I rather saying that the man was the only one who changed, not only because his anger, but also for his drinking. Actually, this was like the root of the whole problem, everything was going well; however, since the moment he started visiting the inn, his behavior changed completely, and then, he ruined his family’s life. If we pay careful attention, the narrator is trying to tell us the man was totally different, his way of treating his wife and pets were so good, compared to the way he did it at the end; consequently, I bet to say that if he would not mistreat the cat, his wife would not die, because everything started by his anger.

The main idea of this story is based on how life can give us proves because of things we have done; accordingly, his treatment towards his family was not good at all and he deserved the worst. But why? So simple, this is the way life teach us everything, doing bad things, you get bad things too. So, in this case all of them suffered, even him, because after all he knows he´s paying everything he did; besides this, I would say real life is pretty much the same, since we live in a society where people do bad or good things, but also getting a clear answer from life and karma.
